Community Uniting
Building Bridges through Kindness
Community Uniting began in 2017 when a small group of neighbors gathered over lunch with a shared question: How can we help make our community stronger, safer, and more welcoming for everyone?
They believed that bringing people together across differences - regardless of faith, race, gender, political beliefs, or background - could foster understanding, build meaningful relationships, and create a community where everyone feels they belong. From that first conversation, Community Uniting was born.
At the heart of this grassroots movement has always been one simple but powerful value: kindness. Kindness toward one another. Kindness through service. Kindness in standing alongside neighbors who are experiencing fear, hardship, or discrimination.
What began with just five people in January 2017 has grown into a vibrant network that reaches hundreds of community members each month through its bi-monthly e-newsletter and a wide variety of programs and events. Over the years, Community Uniting has hosted kindness booths at local festivals, gratitude and heritage walks, community conversations, educational film nights, candlelight vigils, demonstrations, and initiatives supporting refugee families.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Community Uniting partnered with ten local restaurants to launch the SHaRe Program, providing more than 2,000 meals to healthcare workers and educators. Today, the SHaRe Program continues to serve unhoused neighbors and refugee families, reflecting our ongoing commitment to caring for our community.
In 2026, Community Uniting became a program of the Franklin County Coalition for Progress (FCCP), joining a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This partnership allows Community Uniting to expand its impact, strengthen its programs, and raise funds to support future growth.
Our mission is to bring people of goodwill together with the desire to build personal relationships across faith, race, gender, and politics to strengthen our community.
Through service projects, educational programs, community conversations, and initiatives like the SHaRe Program, we bring people together to address local needs, learn from one another, and create opportunities for meaningful connection.
Together, we are building a community where kindness, respect, and collaboration help everyone thrive. Join us!
Community Uniting is operated by a volunteer steering committee and is funded by sponsorships and donations.
